Introduction

A quick virtual trip to Dictionary.com tells us that a boundary is “a line that marks the limits of an area; a dividing line.” If you are wondering what personal boundaries are and why you should be setting boundaries in your life, that is an excellent definition to refer to. It tells you there should be limits to the different activities and relationships which surround your personal and work lives.

When you don’t set and stick to recognizable limits, personal and work productivity can suffer.

Also, there is research which indicates when you create strict and identifiable boundaries and borders in your life, you feel better about yourself. This is because your brain can see you have specific limits and margins to govern your behavior. The human brain loves order and discipline. This makes it easier for you to stay within your boundaries, as opposed to letting people run over and manipulate you. Boundaries also give you clear marching orders as to what you should be doing, when you should be doing it, how you should be doing it, and when you should limit your exposure to others.

The problem with boundaries for a lot of people is that they feel like they are excluding people from their lives when they set these healthy limits.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The people who care about you want you to be healthy and happy. You feel the same way about them. Boundaries benefit both you and your loved ones because they lead to less stress and anxiety, and what is expected from you and others is very clearly defined and easy to understand. This improves your relationships.

In this special report on how to employ limits and boundaries to live a happier, more fulfilled life, we will first look at why boundaries are needed. You will learn what signs point to problem areas where limits and parameters need to be set, in both your personal and business lives. You will learn how to effectively deal with difficult people, how to be more assertive when that is the best course of action, and how to stop feeling guilty about putting yourself first.

Let’s get started making you a happier and healthier person by digging deeper into exactly what boundaries are.

Email 1 – Spreading yourself too thin

Welcome to the series on spreading yourself too thin. In this lesson and the next 4, we are going to look at the signs, results, cure and lessons learned from trying to do too much at any one time.

By constantly overloading yourself, your body starts to break down – both mentally and physically. In later lessons, we will see how and why this happens.

In today’s crazy world, it is a fine balancing act – like a seesaw – where you are trying to do all that you want to do to help others verses what you must do to help yourself. The trick is knowing where the center of balance is and not letting either side touch the ground.

As we will see in the next lesson, there are telltale signs, both physically and mentally that your body is sending you that if you are listening will be your wake-up call to slow down and take some things off of your plate. Listen to those signals.

If you don’t heed the call, and keep charging down the road at full speed, your body will start to show signs of your personal neglect. We will see some of the results in lesson 3.

In lesson 4, we show you some things you can do to help “cure” yourself of trying to be everything to everyone. Spreading yourself too thin is a type of mental condition that like most conditions, can be cured.

Finally, in lesson 5 we put it all together in some lessons learned from this whole process. It should be a good time and we will all learn something about ourselves.

See you soon.

Boundaries PLR Article Sample:

Are You a People-Pleaser?

Before we can determine if you are a people-pleaser or not, we must know the definition of one. A people-pleaser is “a person who is obedient and compliant with someone else’s orders or wishes; a subservient person, especially in a workplace.” Does this sound like you? Are you constantly trying to please other people instead of yourself? If so, read on!

Three indicators of people-pleasing

One common indicator that you could be a people-pleaser is if you are a person that has a hard time saying no to a request from a co-worker or friend. But by not doing so, soon you are overwhelmed with other peoples’ work that you agreed to do. And because of it, now your own work that you are responsible for completing begins to slide, because you feel the other people’s work is more important than your own.

Another indicator is you go to great lengths to avoid conflict.

But in the process of it you end up agreeing to things that in the end compromise your values and who you are. By not standing up for yourself and wanting to avoid conflict, your true self remains hidden from others.

A third indicator is need praise to feel good about yourself. People-pleasers thrive on what others say about them and in the process go to great lengths to do things for others that will result in praise for themselves.

As time goes on, these indicators erode your self-worth and lead you to become even more subservient to other people; in the end, you don’t have the time to pursue your own career goals and therefore do not rise to the level of success that you had set for yourself. You essentially become a slave to others. What is worse is when they take the credit for work you did and deny you the praise you desire for doing the work!

How to break free!

A journey starts with a single step and the road to recovery as a people-pleaser is no different. Start by saying no to small requests. Explain that you just don’t have the time right now to take on more work. Like anything else, taking that first step is the hardest, but it becomes easier each additional time you do it.

By saying no, the person asking will find someone else to do their work, or end up doing it themselves, which is what they should have been doing in the first place, especially if hey are going to take the credit for it anyway.

If you are the type of person that thrives on helping others, avoiding conflict and feel the need for constant praise to feel good about yourself, you could be a people-pleaser. But keep in mind that you will always be at their beck and call if you do not take that first step to break free and do what you want to do.

Working With Others PLR Email Article Sample:

Subject: Dealing with anger at work

Dear [Name],

There may come a time when you find yourself dealing with anger at work. It may be your anger or someone else’s. Whatever the situation, it’s vitally important to diffuse the discord as quickly as possible. It’s no secret that a stressful work environment is an unproductive one. Keep reading to learn more about maintaining harmony on the job. It can be done.

Take a Deep Breath

When people get angry, they tend to say things that only make the problem worse. If you ever feel yourself starting to get frustrated at work, take a deep breath and count to three. It may not seem like much, but it can be enough time to regain your focus in order to keep your composure. If you’re talking to a co-worker and feel yourself starting to get upset, consider asking that person if he or she can come back and talk to you at a later time when you feel better.

Focus on the Issue

If you are having a hard time getting along with someone at work, it can really make it difficult to interact together effectively. In this case, it’s important to only focus on the job-related issues you have with this individual and not the dislike you may have with them as a person.

Remember, lashing out at your co-workers can create more problems and make getting along with them extremely difficult. This can lead to an increase in the anger and anxiety levels of everyone involved.

Express Yourself Clearly

It can be very frustrating when it seems that the people around you don’t get what you’re trying to say. Typically, when you get angry, it becomes somewhat difficult to express yourself in a way that everyone understands. For best results, always make sure to speak calmly and clearly. Express your side of the issue without being defensive or placing blame.

Know Your Limits

Do you find yourself getting angry often? If so, it’s important to identify what sort of things set you off and also be able to recognize when you’re starting to feel upset. When you’re quick to anger, you might find yourself in an argument before you know it. So, recognizing the fact that your behavior is starting to get aggressive makes it easier to calm down and focus on solving the issue at hand.

Remove Yourself from the Situation

If your job presents you with a situation you feel you can’t handle, do whatever you can to get yourself out of the situation as calmly and quickly as possible. Politely ask the individual you’re dealing with if he or she can wait a few moments while you find someone else to assist them. This is a much better alternative to having an outburst in front of co-workers or customers. You’ll usually find it much easier to calm down once you’ve taken yourself away from whatever it is that is stressing you out.

Dealing with anger at work is never a pleasant experience. However, armed with this information, it should make difficult instances a little bit easier on everyone concerned.

Next time we’ll look at what to do if you’re having problems with a bully at work.

Steps for Dealing with Major Life Challenges

Life really is like a rollercoaster, with a lot of ups and downs marked by short periods of stability. Birth happens, death happens, and everything in between these two things. Life has struggles, and you will never be fully immune to them. However, you can take these steps to help yourself deal with major life challenges if you are prepared.

  • Submerge Yourself in Reality – When a crisis happens, it’s natural to try to turn away from it and ignore it. Many people isolate themselves in order to avoid issues. But the truth is, when a challenge is happening, it’s time for all hands on deck to deal with it.
  • Get Information – Every challenge can be made more understandable and simpler to get through if you have the right information. Educate yourself when you’re going through a hard time. For example, if you are dealing with the death of a loved one, read books about other people who have dealt with this before.
  • Put the Situation in Perspective – When you educate yourself, you’ll find out that you’re not the first person, and you’re not the last person to have to deal with this awful thing. While that isn’t going to change anything, it puts it into perspective with the rest of your life.
  • Learn Acceptance – When you accept something, that doesn’t mean you agree with it. It just means that you acknowledge that the situation is what it is. When you accept that this is your situation, you can then find information to deal with it.
  • Don’t Be in a Rush – It is hard going through a painful and emotional major life challenge, but it’s also difficult going through an exciting life challenge. Don’t rush yourself through your feelings and your life.
  • Be Grateful – Even during the hardest times, there are always things for which to be grateful. Every day, write down at least three things that you are grateful for. Even if all you can come up with is that you’re still breathing, it will help.
  • Feel Your Feelings Fully – While you do want to try to be more stoic in public when things are going down, you’ll also want to take the time to feel all your feelings fully. Feelings aren’t bad; they just are. If it helps, set a time limit on wallowing, but not on feelings.
  • Understand That Failure and Success Are Intertwined – No one goes through life being a success the first day they try something. For most people, it takes hard work and dedication. You are no different. If you don’t experience failure, you probably are not experiencing that much success, either.
  • Don’t Neglect Your Relationships – When you’re going through a life challenge, it’s tempting to ignore your relationships in favor of dealing with the issues. However, your relationships are there to help you. When you spend more time with people who love and support you, you can get through all sorts of things.

Life has challenges that sometimes are difficult and scary, but it’s only through these periods that you discover who you are, what your principles are, and how you want to grow. Take the time to learn from each new experience, and you’ll find that dealing with major life challenges becomes easier to put into perspective and get through.

Building a Positive Relationship with Your Teen PLR Email Sample:

Email 3 – Reasons teens rebel

Hi [ FIRST NAME ],

One of the most difficult challenges parents face is their teen’s rebellion. Let’s take a closer look at why so many teens go through a rebellious stage. When you understand the reasons, it’s easier to maintain self-control as well as make good parenting choices in a less than ideal situation.

As children turn into pre-teens and teens, they become eager for their own identity and independence. However, they are not yet old enough to live life on their own terms. This can be quite frustrating for them. This frustration and/or anger can motivate teens to lash out or rebel against their parents’ authority, rules, or values.

As your teen’s brain starts to mature, they begin to develop their own ideas and logic. Their logic might be faulty or limited due to lack of maturity, understanding, or experience. Unfortunately, they often don’t know or understand that their thinking isn’t quite as mature as they believe.

Peer pressure can also motivate teens to rebel. This pressure is coming earlier and earlier for vulnerable young children. This pressure often centers on materialism – the haves and the have-nots. The pressure to have designer clothes, sneakers and other items has actually become so extreme that children have killed for a pair of Nikes, or committed suicide because they couldn’t fit in.

The desire to fit in is important to everyone. No one wants to be alone or friendless. Unfortunately, in their attempt to be accepted by their peers, your teen might start to engage in inappropriate or unsafe activities to impress or please others.

So what can you do to help prevent your teen from getting off track completely? The main thing you can do is keep the lines of communication open. That means understanding that your teen is “practicing” being an adult by trying to handle things without running to you for answers.

To you, this may look like your teen is hiding something or is ignoring you. The truth is that when you make an extra effort to be available, approachable, and supportive, your teen will feel comfortable coming to you, even when things are at their worst.

Until next time,
