Hi and welcome to the series on positive thinking for beginners. As you know, thinking is a powerful thing; the body does what the mind tells it to do. But that can be a two-way street.

Negative thoughts can be as damaging to your health as positive one can improve it. Our focus in this email is how positive thinking can benefit your physical health. In general, positive thinking can:

Positive thinkers see a glass as “half full” whereas people who think negatively see it as ‘half empty”. When positive thinkers are faced with stressful situations, they actively search out ways to improve that situation and turn it from a negative into a positive. Negative thinkers on the other hand drown in their pessimism and assuming nothing can be done to improve their situation, usually give up.

By lessening their stress level, positive thinkers have less cortisol flowing through their body less often. Studies have shown that having too much cortisol in your bloodstream too frequently can lead to weight gain, obesity, cardiovascular issues of which some can be severe and a host of other health issues.

Improve your immunity to disease

The mind has a powerful control over the body. Take the case of the flu vaccine. Studies have shown that people who have had the flu vaccine, but are pessimistic and have negative thoughts and attitudes, had a lower immunity to the flu than people who thought positively. Consequently, it can be assumed that if that was the case for the flu, positive thinkers would also have more immunity to other diseases and illness too (and negative thinkers would have less).

Make you more resilient to problems

Resiliency of course refers to our ability to deal with problems. Positive thinking people are more resilient; they bounce back quicker and better when faced with crisis situations. By not letting these situations get you down, stress is reduced, depression is avoided and in general, you experience better health both physically and mentally.

4. Remember that you are in control

There you’ll find the latest thing some horribly self-serving politician said… Or you’ll find a war or you’ll find a natural disaster. The list is endless. You’ll also find countless individuals bragging about themselves, which is both dispiriting and exhausting.

2. Start Your Day Well

This can’t be emphasized enough. Begin your day well with a morning ritual you love. Play some of your favorite music, enjoy a hot cup of coffee or take a walk. Do something that lifts your spirits.

4. Smell the Roses

The concept of karma also may have drawn its roots from the law of attraction. Karma states that you will eventually be revisited by that which you have sent out into the universe. This new concept was first introduced to the public by William Walker Atkinson, the editor of New Thought magazine, who published a book called Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World in 1906.
