One of the biggest challenges when embarking on a weight loss program is that you’re going to have to eat less. There is no way around this harsh truth.

Some fitness gurus will tell you that if you followed their keto diet or their training program, you’d be able to eat all you want and still lose weight. There is an element of truth to what they’re saying – but very often they’ll require you to be fat-adapted and consuming fats or you need to be eating clean foods that taste bland.

There’s always a catch somewhere. The key to overcoming this challenge will be to reduce your hunger pangs and appetite… and we’ll do it the hardcore way. It’ll be challenging, but once you get through it, you’ll be so far ahead that your diet will become much easier to comply with.

* The first 3 days

One of the best ways to curb your hunger will be to go on a water fast for 3 days. This will be difficult to do. You’ll drink only water and eat no food for the duration. Don’t worry. It’s perfectly safe and it’ll reset your body’s system.

If you wish, you can speak to a doctor first to see if it’s suitable for you. If you don’t wish to fast, you can choose to only have one small meal a day for 3 days. Once you get past the 3 days, you’ll notice that your appetite has decreased on the 4th day.

Eating less food is enough to make you feel full. Your stomach has shrunk. This is a good thing. All you need to do is maintain it from here on.

* The glass of water trick

Now that your stomach is smaller and your appetite is reduced, it’s a very good habit to drink a glass of water about 10 minutes before each meal. Very often, thirst is mistaken for hunger. You may discover that you’re no longer hungry after drinking the water.

The water also helps to fill up your stomach so that you feel full with less food. A very useful trick for reducing your food consumption.

* Vegetables

After the 3-day fast, you can now resume your old diet with 3 conditions. First, you’ll need to increase your serving size of vegetables, and cut your carb intake by half. Secondly, you’ll eat your veggies first until you’re done.

You’ll then wait 10 minutes before eating the rest of the meal. This gives your brain some time to register that your stomach feels full. The vegetables might be all you need, and you can just skip the carbs.

If you’re still hungry, eat the meat and save the carbs for last. Only consume the carbs if you’re hungry. Don’t eat them for the sake of clearing your plate.

* Foods that combat cravings

Very often people crave for sweet foods or oily foods. The reason for this is because sugar is addictive. You can remedy this problem by using fruit to satisfy your sweet tooth.

It may not be as satisfying as ice cream or a bar of chocolate, but it still helps. Keep cut fruit in your refrigerator so that you can have some whenever you have cravings.
