A Quick Guide on What to Eat When on the Plant-Based Diet

It may seem obvious that one needs to eat plant foods when on the plant-based diet… but is it really that simple?
Well, there’s more to it than that.

* What types of foods to consume?

A good rule of thumb will be to eat vegetables that come in a variety of colors. Of course, the majority of vegetables that you should consume will have to be green in color.

Broccoli, bok choy, spinach, green peppers, Brussel sprouts, asparagus, green apples Swiss chard, kale, etc. are all green veggies that chockful of nutrients and antioxidants. These will be the most beneficial vegetables of the lot.

Besides them, there are the red foods like cranberries, cherries apples, red peppers, tomatoes, red grapes, strawberries, red cabbage, raspberries and so on.

If you’re looking for purple/blue vegetables, you can get eggplant, purple carrots, beetroot, blueberries, plums, figs, purple cauliflower and so on.

The white vegetables you should consume will be garlic, cauliflower, ginger, coconut, yam, pears, mushrooms, shallots, lychees, etc.

Meat can be consumed on the plant-based diet. Unlike vegetarianism or veganism, this diet has more flexibility. However, meat should make up only 10 percent of the foods you eat. The remaining 90 percent should be plant-based foods. So, that will mean cutting down your consumption of meat greatly.

The fats you consume will also matter. Ideally, you want healthy fats from sources like avocados, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, fish oil and so on. You can get the fish oil by consuming a fish oil supplement that you can get from most health stores.

The processed vegetable oils sold in supermarkets are NOT healthy fats. These are highly inflammatory and detrimental foods.,
